Located on the famous Spoon River, Bernadotte is the site of the only dam on Spoon River. The original dam was built in 1830 for the mills to use. The falls you see today were built in 1943 to supply water for Camp Ellis
where the water towers and water plant are still standing. Camp Ellis also has a million gallon cistern underground by the water plant.
